Set in suburban Grosse Point, Michigan in the 70's. The Virgin Suicides is a darkly homorous, tender exploration into the romantic heart of adolescence. The Virgin Suicides chronicles the exploits of the beautiful, teenage Lisbon sisters and the neighborhood boys' fascination with them. Told through the nostalgic recollections of the boys, now grown men. The Virgin Suicides recalls the mythic time in everyone's life when the heart first learns the ecstasy and torment of desire.

The daughters of the quirky high school math teacher and his strict, religious wife, the five Lisbon sisters have transformed in their teenage years into glorious, unfathomable creatures, introducing the neighborhood boys to new sensations of longing and desire. When the youngest Lisbon, thirteen-year-old Cecilia, kills herself, the boys' fascination with the firls sharpens. Their adolescent infatuation intensifies as the boys struggle to understand the enigmatic sisters.

After Cecilia's death, the Lisbon family rapidly disintegrates, spiralling downward into a morbid isolation as the girls are taken out of school and quarantines by their overprotective mother. The boys of the neighborhood plot to recue the sisters, now prisoners in their own home, and begin communicating with them through the stranfe and mesmerising language of adolescent obsession.

A unique portrayal of the end of innocence, The Virgin Suicides draws a dark humor by juxraposing the ordinariness of suburban life with the macabre events which unfold, transforming the pangs of youthful captivation into a gothic tale of unfulfilled desire.

The Virgin Suicides stars James Woods, Kathleen Turner, Kirsten Dunst, and Josh Hartnett, featuring performances by Scott Gleen, Michael Pare and Danny DeVito. An American Zoetrope production, the film was executive produced by Fred Fuchs and Willi Baer, co-produced by Fred Roos and Gary Marcus and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, Julie Costanzo, Dan Halsted and Chris Hanley. The Virgin Suicides features original music by the French duo Air whose debut album "Moon Safari" appeared in SPIN's Top 20 Albums of the Year list.
